Meet Janelle, Farm Animal Rescue Volunteer
Recently we found out a little bit more about FAR volunteer Janelle
How long have you been working with FAR? I've been working with FAR for about 4 years.
What prompted you to start volunteer work for animals?
I have loved animals for as long as I can remember. I had stopped eating meat about 15 years before I started as a volunteer and hated the fact that animals are killed for food and treated so abhorrently, so when I found FAR I attended an open day. I loved it and it presented an opportunity for me to make a difference for farm animals, well, the ones that are lucky enough to be at FAR at least. I have also learnt more about dairy since finding FAR and stopped that too.
What do you love most about volunteering for FAR?
I have to say the animals, I also love being outdoors and working with Brad, the other volunteers and Alex & Emmy.
What do you find difficult about your work?
The hardest thing is saying goodbye to the animals when they die.
Who is your favourite rescued farm animal?
Too many!!
My favourite resident cattle are George & Precious, favourite rescued sheep are Greta & Lily; favourite rescued goats are Jack & Candy; and pigs - Kane & Portia; chooks - roosters, Rocky and Bubble and Squeak, the resident duck.
Is there anything else you'd like to let us know about you?
