In September we found out a little bit more about FAR volunteer Julie. A FAR volunteer for just over one year, Julie volunteers with her partner Paul. We asked her a few questions...
What made you start to volunteer with Farm Animal Rescue?
Paul and I initially attended the FAR 'walk for farm animals'. I was so inspired by the speakers and the community that FAR had created and I wanted to be a part of it and make more of a difference than I already was.
What do you love best about your work at FAR?
I love being around the animals, especially the feathered kind. I just feel so happy and at peace being around them. I also love the people that I have met through FAR, they are the best kind of people, truly kind.
Is there anything that you find hard about your work?
YES! Knowing that I am limited in my ability to help animals. I feel so much of a connection to animals and it pains me so much to know the reality of what happens to farm animals. I haven't been able to bring myself to view any footage from animal activists, and as I'm not aware of their realities I can't be an activist for better treatment or influence others.
Who is your favourite resident?
I adore the roosters. I love how they look after their ladies and go and sort them out when needed. It's adorable that they find food for their ladies before they eat.
What's something surprising about you?
I have so much empathy for animals and love them all but when it comes to people I struggle to relate.
Is there anything else you'd like FAR supporters to know about you?
That I hope to meet and serve you all at vegan markets
