Lily the rescued lamb
One of our first residents, Lily came to us unable to eat, drink or stand because she had been infested with worms, along with her mother and sister.
It took a week for Lily to get better, but we couldn't get her to walk until her mom came along and performed the magic that only a mother can.
One 4th September 2023, we were saddened to share the news of Lily's passing due to liver disease. Lily held a special place in our hearts as the third animal to be rescued at our sanctuary, alongside her loving mother, Eve. Lily's twin, Rose, was also part of this incredible family.
When Lily first arrived at our sanctuary, she was in a dire condition, heavily infested with worms and too weak to stand, eat, or drink. But with unwavering dedication, love, and round-the-clock care, we watched her health gradually improve.
Lily was not feeding well initially, but our hopes soared when we brought Eve and Rose to the sanctuary, hoping that Lily's family's presence would inspire her to recover and walk. At first, Eve was excited to see Lily, but when she realized Lily couldn't get up, she walked away with Rose. We feared that Lily might be abandoned.
In a last-ditch effort, we decided to reunite Lily with her mother the next day. Placing Lily near Eve and Rose, we hoped for a miracle. To our sheer delight, when we returned after an hour, we found Lily happily trotting behind her mother.
It was a powerful testament to the bond and communication between a mother and her child, transcending species. Sometimes, no matter how well-intentioned we are as humans, we cannot replicate the power of maternal instinct and care. Eve's tough love proved to be more effective than our methods.
Nature has its way, and it reminds us that mothers and babies are meant to be together. Today, Eve outlives Lily, albeit with some arthritis, and spends her days with her daughter and the entire FAR flock, protected by top-notch medical care and nutritious food. She roams the sanctuary's hills and plains, knowing she is safe and free for the rest of her life.
Lily's journey taught us the resilience of life and the unbreakable bonds that exist among all creatures. We honor her memory and continue our mission to provide a safe haven for our beloved animal residents.
