Rescued dorper sheep
Joanie was rescued in April 2017. We presume that both Joanie and her friend Annie were being fattened in preparation for someone's dinner, and so we will never really understand how they were discovered tied up under an abandoned house without food or water. When they arrived at sanctuary they were thin, malnourished, dehydrated and very, very sad.
As much as they feared our touch, we gently cleaned their wounds, offered them some nutritious food to bring back their strength, and whispered to them that they were now safe and free. Annie, with open sores on her body and a horn wound full of maggots, was simply too weak and succumbed to her injuries before her life at sanctuary could even begin. But Joanie fought hard for her life and will now live her life free at Farm Animal Rescue sanctuary.
We rejoiced watching quiet and gentle Joanie regain both her strength and trust in humans, and thank her for teaching us through her intelligent and unique personality just how important her life is to her, as it is to us.
