Button's life began in a cage-free egg facility, a place where her days were filled with fear and hardship. When she arrived at our sanctuary, she was not only scared but also seriously ill, with many of her feathers missing.
Despite her difficult past, Button's story took a turn for the better here. With the dedicated care of our sanctuary team, she regained her health and found a safe, loving home. However, in July, Button faced a new challenge as she was diagnosed with inoperable bowel cancer.
Finding peace and joy at the Sanctuary
Now, Button is in palliative care at our sanctuary, where she is closely monitored every day. While there is no treatment for her condition, we are committed to ensuring that she lives the remainder of her life comfortably and free from pain. She's currently under pain management, and remarkably, she continues to live life to the fullest, actively participating in the flock. Button will get to live out the rest of her life in peace, enjoying what she loves most - foraging around the sanctuary.
